Gallery Standout

I'm proud to say that my scrapbook page for the Song Challenge at DigitalDesignDen has been chosen as "Gallery Standout" for today. I'm also humbled because there were many other pages by some great designers.

Two weeks ago I attended a Macro Photo Day sponsored by a local Camera Store and Tamron lenses. We met at the City Greenhouse and took photos of the beautiful contents. The weather was perfect and so was the light. This was a very unique event for me because I don't normally use a tripod and they were encouraging us to use one. Because of this I did a lot of fussing around at first with my cheap 9 year old tripod, but then I soon got the hang of it. They also provided a lot of equipment that we could borrow to try out. There were new Canon and Nikon cameras, Manfrotto tripods and of course Tamron Lenses.
I tried out three different lenses, a 90 mm, a 70-300 mm and a Fisheye and I got a lot of really great photos. Then before we left the owner of the store came over and gave us chocolate candy, coupons for items in the store and information about a contest for the photos we took that day. I'd never entered a contest before, but I did have a couple of pretty good photos that I was pretty proud of, so I sent them off. They then posted the photos on their Facebook page and asked for votes. I checked back the next day and was surprised to see that one of my photos had already received 5 votes, all from people I didn't know. So then I posted on my page that I'd like to have my friends vote for my photo also. A few days later when the contest ended I discovered that my photo had come in 4th place among around 40 photos entered. Here is a copy of that photo:

Decided I needed to get back to posting on my Blog. Since I last posted I have been busy with scanning in all my old photos and taking classes in how to improve my scrapbooking skills. Also, a couple of months ago I bought a new camera. I had been using a Sony H10 that I'd gotten about 4 to 5 years ago and I really did like it, but it was real slow on taking photos. Especially when I wanted to take one photo after another. I was finding that while the camera took great photos of things that were still, it wasn't so good at taking them of a moving target like an eighteen month old grandson. I got more pictures of the back of his head then I did of his face.

So I did a lot of online research of various Canon, Nikon and Sony cameras. Finally I decided to check them out at Best Buy. Of course if you've ever looked at any of the new DSLR's you would know my problem. They are all similar, yet they are all different, and they all cost oodles of money. Then I picked up the new Sony A55. It had gotten really good reviews online so I was familiar with the new features, but it was they way it felt in my hand that really sealed the deal. Since I never buy anything without comparing prices, etc., I also checked  it out at a couple of local camera shops. One of them didn't carry it, but the other had just gotten it in and had it marked down $50. Unfortunately, I still didn't have quite all the money saved up to buy it so I had to pass on it.

Then I got an idea. I went back to Best Buy and told them that the other camera shop had it for $50 less. The manager came over a short time later and said that I could buy it at the other price. So I bought it right then and put the extra on my card. They were also having a special where you could get a camera case, battery, card and cord for $50, so I bought that too. Win all around for me.

New CT member

I'm excited to announce that I have been accepted as a CT for Chrissy at Wisteria Moments http://wisteriamoments.blogspot.com/ . I'm finally back

I somehow screwed up my Google account and haven't been able to get in to Blogger for the past couple of months. Finally, I think I got everything straightened out. First I was taking lessons in Photoshop and designing so I didn't have much to post anyway. But then I had a stroke and was unable to do much for a while. Now I'm doing much better and am trying to get back into everything again. Unfortunately I don't have too much to show as for any work I've done, but I hope to have something again within the next few days. Thanks for baring with me.
